Hey guys! This is the first episode of a new series called Ilaripro Skill School. In this series I’m going to teach football skills, shooting techniques and everything you can think of. In the this episode we’re concentrating on one of the coolest shooting techniques, the curve. Watch until the end, because one: you’ll learn how to shoot a curve and two: you’ll find out how you guys can be part of the Ilaripro Skill School. I recommend you to take a different length run up if you’re shooting from this close or if you’re shooting from further away. From this close to the goal I’d only take a few steps. From these distances it’s more about precision than power. We’re already at the second step, which means you’re getting closer to mastering the curve. Now let’s see what part of the foot you should use and where to hit the ball. It’s difficult to tell the exact spot, but I like to use this part of my foot. If this is the middle of the ball, right footed players should try to kick here and left footed players here. If you kick over the middle, the shot will be too low. If you kick too low, you’ll find the ball from the trees. A couple of years ago my follow through was very different compared to how I do it nowadays. It was much shorter than today. The shots weren’t bad, but the problem was that the ball didn’t always dip early enough if I was shooting from a close distance like this. If you shoot from further away, the ball has enough time to dip into the goal, but now we’re so close that it has to go over the wall and dip very quickly. What did I do? When I want to shoot a curve from this close, I first of all keep my standing foot on the ground the whole time. Then the follow through, which used to be very short. Nowadays I swing my foot much higher, make a bigger movement and bring it back down. That movement gives the ball that curve with a little top spin, which makes it possible to get it over the wall and dip into the goal. As you saw, that technique works well from close, but from a bit further away, you won’t get enough power to your shot. That’s why I like to use the old technique from these distances. That means moving the kicking foot over the standing foot. Also the standing foot doesn’t have stay on the ground. A few extra tips. Remember these. Learn how to use you’re whole body when kicking the ball. Especially the last step before kicking the ball should be longer than the first steps. That way you get more power to your shot. The second tip is about the follow through. I promise you’ll get more curve with this tip. When you hit the ball, think you’re making a big half circle with your foot in the air. You’ll be surprised. Keep you’re ankle locked when you hit the ball. If it’s loose like this, you won’t much power to your shot. This was the first episode of the Ilaripro Skill School. The idea behind this series is to teach you new skills and you can show me what you’ve learned. I’ll also have a Ilaripro Skill School football camp. That’s going to be great!
